What is the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)? What are the consequences for an employer who does not abide by the regulations set forth in this Act?
Answer: That entitles employees to take unpaid leave for a specified family medical reason. Now, that’s limited to 12 weeks a year, and they can take it, under the specifications, they can take leave for the birth of a new baby or if they newly adopted a child. They also can take leave for care of a family member with serious health conditions or their own serious health conditions. And also, if a family member is in active duty and there’s exigent circumstances for the employee, they also can take leave as well. And again, violations of that would basically be either fines or potential criminal penalties.
